Hi. Everyone I am happy to say since that post. My daughter has graduated and gotten her certificate from Barbizon modeling school I am so very proud of my daughter she has had many auditions and have been picked for everyone she's been in thank you barbizon for helping me to make my daughters dreams come true. My daughter now has the opportunity to do a Model and Talent Competition for jazz She also has an opportunity to participate in the 7th Annual PassPort To Discovery where she will get to meet some of the top modeling recruiters and fashion models if she wins the Competition she could win $500,000.00 in scholarships and a free photo shoot. I am asking for help to raise money so that my daughter may be able to take the cruise that may change her life. I put her through the classes by myself and it was a struggle but I got it done but now I need help raising the money to make my daughter's dream come true I have setup a gofundme.com/xr7cgh8k account so if anyone can please give my daughter a donation we would truly appreciate it anything you can give. I am just a single mom who is trying to make my daughter's dream come true. I Thank you for reading my last post and for making it popular still today. Please everyone go to the link and make a donation. Thanking you in advance and god bless you all.

Barbizon Scam

Updated by user Sep 11, 2011

Unfortunatly pissedcomsumer.com does not have a way to remove or edit your posts. I have to thank Laura from the Sacramento offices of Barbizon for doing everything she has..

even if nothing comes from any of it. I believe at this time Barbizon is trying to work with me and provide excellant services to remedy a bad experience. I wish I could remove the post but I suppose theis website might not provide any sort of customer service as they have no way to update comsumers to let them know how many of these places might actually take the step to work with their comsumers. Barbizon is franchise...

just like your local McDonalds Starbucks ect... Have you ever walked into McDonalds and been given the wrong order? I know I have. You get home and your not happy & everyone in the car hears you as you grumble the whole way back to complain how everything was messed up.

The differance is that when its fixed annd your driving back home those same people in the car get to know that you have been SATISFYED as a consumer. Pissedconsumer.com doesnt give people the oppertunity to let people know if something was resolved. My daughter had a bad experience.. yes but Barbizon is trying to fix that bad experience for her. And anyone that reads my review should be able to know that also.

Consumers have the right to be displeased but also have the right to let people know \"hey they fixed that\". Laura in the Sacramento office has been doing a wonderful job with customer service and trying to resolve the issue.

Original review Sep 06, 2011
Recently my daughter attended Barbizon "training". True they do tell you they can not guarantee that your child will be signed. They sell you this saying they will prepare your child for this industry but they also promise other things in regards to what your paying for.I personally have shelled out $3,000 or more. I 1st caught them in a lie that they did not have a class in my hometown. Come to find out they did and my children & I were traveling over 6 hours round trip every other weekend. They said my child would recieve a make-up kit, textbook, & headshots as well as at the end would audition for agents. I thought wow what a great oppertunity for my child. When asked about the make-up kit we were told that is only for models. My child was in the pre-teen modeling & acting course. when asked about the textbook we were told they no longer used them. I still continued to send my daughter to these classes. In these classes where your not allowed to see what they are teaching your child where the "instructor" will NOT tell you there last name. My 9 year old daughter was made to change in front of an adult male at 1 class i later found out!! if im not allowed in class what is an adult male doing in there with my young kid undressing? the fashion show comes around where all clothes are provided by you, make-up is provided by you and i was also told no more than 5 guests! ive paid thousands of dollars and many hours just in traveling & i cant invite grandma & grandpa? 1 parent had brought a man that made preverted comments and racial slurs about all the children throughout the fashion show. I didnt blame Barbizon for that but felt they could have asked the man to leave. After the fashion show Barbizon contacted me saying since they had seen my daughter the other day they would really love her to go to San Fransisco for an audition. I called back to do a last minute schedule thinking its great the fashion show led somewhere. Come to find out it was another talent scout from Barbizon trying to re-enroll my child in there course. I explained how my daughter just had graduation & didnt need to attend the same program twice. The children were told they were to have their headshots & "try out" for agents after the fashion show. My daughter was given 2 minutes of the photographers. well I'm still thinking Hey my kid works great with that photographer!! But then the try out is NOT for agents its for ANOTHER talent scout!! we started off with a talent scount why are we back to square 1? which is no longer IMTA but now is IPAS ( International Preforming Arts Showvase). we are told not everyone makes this only 300 girls from the whole country. well Barbizon had told us about this event but promoted it that in the fees to them 300 of their students would be brought to LA for a red carpet gala. we were told they would call everyone back weather they made it or not. no one called so eventually i called back. where of course... my daughter has been accepted to attend another training program. at this point im halfway leary but also wanting to support my child. we were told to come back in 2 days to pick out what headshot we wanted (from our Barbizon package) and to meet with this scout. we showed up and obviously the scout was running behind... because she was running EVERYONES credit cards!! one father had 3 cards declined before he finally wrote a check trying to get his daughter in. We see more than 1 child that has been accepted! they are congragulating everyone. we are then told that for $6,000 for our daughter & an additional $2,000 for me we can go to the red carpet gala. i explained i didnt have this kind of $$ at this point ive already put a lot of $ out to barbizon with the falsifyed statements that at the end our child would audition for agents. So now the deal is IF we want to meet these agents spend $8,000 more. i have already paid for this. I told the lady my child couldnt attend then she started demanding me to give her a list of people from my phone for her to call & ask for the $!! NO WAY! why are you grabbing at my phone lady?!! then she drops another sales pitch give $2000 down then it drops to $1000 down then yet again another drop in the deposit amount to $500. i stayed firm with i didnt have the $ and then she wants me to leave her a check that she states she will hold for 2 days & give me time to get the money but that my child would have to attend 6 months later. What!! there is a 2nd red carpet gala event? oh yes there is! they now have found so many kids that they have started to hold 2 events each with 300 kids a year. I still will not hand over my $ and then they refused to allow my child & i to pick out a headshot that was origanally part of the Barbizon package because we are not going to LA. Barbizon is a SCAM and people who are still attending the class or are thinking about it dont really know until they reach the end of forking out $. Had i been 1 of the wiser people i wouldnt have paid the $ right? Wrong these people are great at what they do! Sales... dont get scammed dont spend your $ on this fake package. we got no make up kit no textbook no headshots no audition for agents no nothing and the "scholorship" that you might have a chance to win through barbizon... nope thats included if you pay $8000 more also

I attended the Barbizon course twice and can honestly say it was a waste of thousands of dollars. (I paid for it) Now that I am older I realize how much I could have used that money for other things.

I auditioned at many of the events and every time I was accepted and then told I couldn't move forward until I fork out more money. Needless to say I did not benefit from Barbizon. They teach girls that to be beautiful, you have to look a certain way. I was forced to wear skirts, panty *** and make-up.

What about natural beauty? I hate make-up and skirts to this day. I'm low on funds, living out on my own, have terrible anxiety which was supposed to be fixed at that school with the self-improvement part of the course, and I've never even had a photoshoot. The headshot thing was news to me.

I'm also constantly getting spammed with emails and calls and postcards to audition for more events so that when I get accepted I can pay more money. I refuse to pay any more money to anything Barbizon related until I AT LEAST make the money I lost back like they said I would be able to through them.

I've made $80 from Barbizon so far and that was an $8/hour gig to recruit more Barbizon students. Thanks Barbizon; rewarded for everything I've done with $8 and hour and a ten hour work day.

Barbizon of Sac is amazing! The staff is very professional and helpful.

They will do anything to help you out. I'm assuming all Barbizon offices are not the same because I have never had an experience as these listed here.

Guest

um i was called and ow im scArred to go um is it really a scam becuase my parent have financial issues and i dont want to make it worst :eek :x :?

Guest

I am a Barbizon Graduate and I found barbizon very unprofessional, the comments on here, most of them, I agree with. I'm sorry to say but Barbizon is a scam, I just graduate last week and I did enjoy some of it, I did get a makeup kit and a book and a photoshoot which I enjoyed but the lack of calling back and everything about it was a waste, the talent scout for IPAS did want me to participate in their fashion show but that was way to expensive, if they truly wanted me as a model then I wouldn't have to pay because they would know I would make them money. my older sister, when she was little she modeled for bell helmets and my little sisters friend is on the downy bottle, and they did not go through a program like this

Guest

I got excepted for Barbizon. All these comments are really scaring me.

My family is really going through a hard time with money, but they said that they'll still be willing to pay. If I make it and if Barbizon isn't a scam, then I wil go far and help my family. However, if Barbizon is a scam....my family is really going to suffer.

Should i grab on to this oppertunity? Or wait?

Guest

My sister tried out for this when it came to our area.

They made it sound really believable and worthwhile at first. A huge presentation, with videos of all the stars who had come out of it. It also seemed like it was a tough thing to get into, but those who did had a great experience and a career and fame down the road.

Right after the presentation, you're auditioned and interviewed by an agent. Again, it was made to seem like not everyone got in. But looking at the girls coming out, all but three of them had acceptance sheets. There were about 45 in all.

Now, if you're accepted, you don't necessarily get in. You pay 2 grand to have people look at your photos, MAYBE take you in, and take modeling classes once a month. Well if it doesn't work you've wasted 2,000 dollars, and the classes are taught by unexperienced teachers. Those who took them didn't learn much; it seemed as if the teachers made up the lessons as they went along.

*** as this is, the real issue here is the money. It is ALL a scam to get you to pay more and more to go to interviews and different cities, and for what? They don't pick based on talent, only those who could pay. They said my sister was amazing and DID choose her, but held off because my parents weren't sure they were willing to give them the money. They ended up not doing it. Meanwhile, others who had were being called incessantly by Barbizon demanding more money.

So if your kid wants to be a model, send them to another school. Even a small local thing would be better. All this does is scam you out of thousands of dollars and gets your kid nowhere.

Guest

:eek :roll :) :grin ;)

Guest

This certainly a scam my stepmom told me that her sister did this and it cost 1000$ and the don't make you a model

Guest

Barbizon is most certainly a scam, I remember being told I would receive makeup classes, the makeup was in old crusty tubes, and I remember my "teacher" giving us wise advice such as "take baths" they make it seem like its exclusive, and there is a screening process, where in reality they allow absoulutely everyone into their programs and fashion shows. Stay away.

The truth is, if you were attractive enough to be a model, agencys pay YOU.

Not the other way around. Save your cash

I graduated from Barbizon 6 years ago. Only in the past few weeks have they called me with offers to work for their offices.

The only thing I didn't like about my Barbizon experience was the graduation. I loved my time there, but I didn't appreciate them saying "She loves runway" when they knew I detested it. They probably thought I would get more jobs if I was advertized as a runway model, but it wasn't what I wanted, and I never got called by anyone but Barbizon themselves asking me to help with the new models coming in.

It's a nice facility. My parents had a payment plan that allowed them to not have to pay up front.

I enjoyed and valued my time at Barbizon. Without the classes, I would not have any friends, because I would have never approached anyone on my own.

I wouldn't have my fiancee if I hadn't talked to him first because he himself is very shy, like I used to be. I have more self-confidence and higher self-esteem.

-A Barbizon Graduate

Please allow me to say how much I appreciated your support

Dear [Barbizon], I hope you are doing very well. I couldn't forget something about you while I was busy getting four kids ready for their first day of school. Please allow me to say how much I appreciated your support and faith in Brianna's full potential of being a fashion model, regardless of her deafness. You made it possible for me to bring her to the Barbizon competition. As well, you made my dedication to both daughters, Amella and Brianna, realistic and successful. Without your guideline, nothing would happen to her or me. Truly, I would love for us to continue and thrive the relationship in the future. You were, and are still the best thing that ever happened to Brianna and Amella. Forever, I am grateful for that. Sincerely, Serafima M

Barbizon has been such a life changing experience for me

Dear Sirs: It was wonderful to see the Barbizon team back in Omaha today! I continue to be impressed with your agency and am so honored to get to be involved with such and amazing group! The very first time I attended a Barbizon presentation, I was a 14 year old who was extremely shy and lacked self-confidence. In fact, I was so scared and nervous, my mom had to practically drag me into the convention center. After sitting through the presentation and attending my first class, I started to gain interest. Not only did I have amazing teachers, I loved the curriculum. When I was little, I had the dream that every little kid fantasizes about being on Disney and becoming a star. I became quite the entertainer, performing concerts from atop the living room coffee table, for family and friends. One show, when I was around five, even resulted in me completing a front flip, catching myself and my audience off guard. My cousins and I also put on an annual circus, which we called “The Whirly Twirly Circus.” We did extensive planning and recruited many people throughout the neighborhood to gather for the show every year. Sitting, in that first class awakened those dreams I had dreamt as a young child, and I began to see a way that I could make it into the industry I had always wanted to be a part of. My openness to entertain others and perform confidently ended when I was ten. When I was ten, I moved from the small town of Valentine, NE, to Omaha, NE. My mom got promoted to Director of a Research Organization, so she no longer could work from home. The move meant I had to leave all I had ever known behind, my house, my school, and my friends. I ended up attending three schools in one year, before I found one that worked for me. Looking back, all of these changes were very stressful on me, and truly depleted me of the confidence and outgoingness that I once had. Attending Barbizon allowed me to lose that shy personality that I had developed and gain the confidence I had lost. Today I feel so blessed to have been selected to take part in Barbizon training, without it I would be unable to accomplish everything I can now. Barbizon has been such a life changing experience for me, transforming me into a completely different person and opening countless doors of opportunities for me. Any more, I am an extremely confident and determined person. I am bound and determined to do everything I do to the best of my abilities, which in turn leaves me successful in whatever I do. I have always been successful in school and am the current valedictorian of my class of 522 kids. Barbizon also gave me skills that have allowed me to be a leader in many clubs and activities. The life skills and interview skills have also been very helpful for me. This past year, I had teachers nominate me for Girls State. Girls State is a nationwide camp that allows girls to get a first-hand look at their state’s government system. In a school of over 2,000 kids, the two spots available were very competitive, yet because I was confident, poised and had practice in interviews I secured a spot. While I don’t ever plan to become a politician, I’ve learned to never pass up an opportunity because you never know what might come out of it. I’ve also learned to be confident in myself. I’m now extremely confident in who I am as a person. I don’t care what other people think of me, because I am going to stay true to my morals and values and be the best me that I can be. By attending Barbizon classes, I realized how much I really felt at home on the runway, I’m me. With each step, each click of the heel, adding to my confidence; every flash of the camera, capturing the moment when I am the star, living out my dream. Today, I honestly don’t know where I would be without taking part in Barbizon. The skills and lessons I have learned will stay with me and help me for the rest of my life. I look forward to finishing my classes and working with Barbizon in the near future! I’m excited to see where else Barbizon can take me! Sincerely, Anne R. Ft. Calhoun, NE

What Barbizon Is... and isn't

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Barbizon is a school that prepares / grooms young women for the entertainment and modeling industries. They are NOT agents or managers. I brought my daughter to Barbizon so she could learn discretion and grace for whatever career she may choose for herself. She has learned how to act in society, take care of her body, with respect from aspiring young ladies. They have a desire to break into the world with an attitude of bravery, pursuing their dreams while they are young and learning how to handle the rejection this life hands out sometimes AND get back on their feet. If you think it is all about just getting the job, you are deceiving yourself and are attending Barbizon for the wrong reason. We have spent some money, yet I must say, the photographer's prices are very low compared to hiring them ourselves and other fees are more than reasonable. The experiences have been fun and something the whole family has enjoyed. For instance, The Washington DC Competition (2015) was only a couple of days but we made the stay into a week long vacation and had a great time. (You are going to do these things anyway, why not do them while building up your child's self esteem?) The point is this, do your homework, just because you didn't get what you thought you were getting, doesn't mean the business is a scam or they are haters. It is what you make it and at least your kids will look back and say... "my mom and dad did something positive with me when I was young." Thank you for being a part of our life Barbizon!

I recently posted a review on Barbizon while I thought the classes were great and my daughter was learning a great deal and with her bubbly, out going personality I knew she would have a job. What I didn't know was my daughter was given information or I didn't pick up the information that I needed to know about the next step and where to go from there. Needless to say I was contacted immediately and explained the process. So now I shall sit and wait it out to see what happens but I was contacted and the lady I spoke with was very helpful to me. So if something or nothing is done either way I was pleased to be contacted and explained the expectations. Barbizon changed my daughter in a good way and for that i am happy but when she practiced the run way walk on the boardwalk I had to roll my eyes and remind her where we were. Barbizon teaches the girls some very girly and professional ways and for that I am pleased.

My experience with Barbizon has truly been spectacular

My experience with Barbizon has truly been spectacular. I started these classes not really sure of what to expect or how I would prosper. I feel as though these classes have taught me so many wonderful aspects about not only the modeling world but about life. I have learned how to execute and use the talents I have been given to do model walks, turns, pose with products, behave myself in the industry, and learn how to love myself. I have gained confidence throughout my time of taking these classes and I feel as though I am more ready to take on the world. You have such an inspiring story Ms. Natalia, of learning English and thriving to be such a successful, loving person and model. Coming into this program, I was not convinced that I had what it takes to become a successful model and leaving this program I know that if I put in enough work, I can conquer my wildest dreams. Thank you for being an inspiration to me and showing me what it means to show the world my talents and the person I am. You have been a greater teacher than I could ever ask for, and thank you for shaping me into being a better person. Barbizon and yourself have taught me more than just how to deal with the industry, but how to walk through life and be successful and confident in all that I will do. The decision to pursue a modeling career and start right here at Barbizon is a choice that I will never forget and am so thankful for. Sincerely, Kimberly Collins

Got My Start At Barbizon

It is my great pleasure when someone asks me where I got my “start”; I can proudly say that it all started at Barbizon!I am so thankful I took advantage of this great opportunity that was presented to me.Barbizon has made me a whole person. Not only has it helped me pursue my modeling and acting career, but it has given me confidence in my everyday life. In fact, just last week a teacher at school asked the class a question, and I knew the answer because I had learned that at Barbizon. It has opened so many doors for me, and I can't wait to see what my future at Barbizon has in store.- Alexis, Barbizon Alum

Our daughter Trina has always set goals for herself. To assist in realizing her goals, we enrolled her in your modeling classes.I am happy to tell you that the training you and your staff have given her exceeded our expectations. Her classmates at school remarked that she always dressed sharply and had a very positive attitude. This positive attitude has spilled over into other parts of her school life.We would like to thank every member of your staff who worked with Trina. All of them seem to take a very personal interest in each student and show a great deal of affection for the modeling.- Bob W., Barbizon Parent

Barbizon is not an agency it is a school, they tell you that you're not guaranteed a job afterwards, but for my daughter the experience was well worth it, she now works with top desiners all over America and is on her way to becoming an actress in films with very well known actors... It's about you and how much you're willing to put into helping your kid's dreams come true

No issue what so ever.

I attended Barbizon modeling & acting school in 2013 here in Tampa, FL. I went to the audition in shorts, sandals & a tank top with nothing done to my hair and no extravagant makeup done, being surrounded by girls in dresses, high heels & done up hair plus fancy makeup I figured I'd never make it in. I was complimented by the recruiting agent on so many things. They gave me all the necessary information about the school. My first day, I was so nervous. But the teachers were so nice & focused on teaching. My whole time attending, I learned runway turns, makeup tips, hair tips, good posture, how to sit at job interviews & tips on job interviews! Plus, the time I had there was so much fun. The girls I was in class with were really nice & we pretty much all wanted to model or act. My instructor always made sure to call the Friday before the Sat-Sun classes once every month. They gave us so many tips to use in real life, I wasn't expecting that out of a modeling school. Not everyone that goes to Barbizon gets into the modeling/acting industry. There's just too many demands with very extreme requirements & I came to terms with that. I attended the Barbizon competition in Orlando, FL during 2013 & was joined with 4 of my friends from my class. They had classes to help spice up your commercial, how to talk to agents, pretty much anything you needed to know about the upcoming competition the next day. The competition was extremely nerve racking but so much fun. I had spoke to 2 agents, which isn't much but I was blessed to have even gone to the competition. I haven't gotten many jobs for modeling, but that's okay considering I'm a full time student. I've also gotten many calls regarding jobs. Working at malls, working at their corporate office, receptionist, etc. If you think Barbizon's a scam, you should probably look at how much girls improve after attending. I've changed incredibly & I'm way more confident then ever & I thank Barbizon for helping me. I don't see one thing wrong with Barbizon, I see them as helping girls improve with confidence, posture & helping them get into the modeling/acting industry which is hard.

Hi my name is luci yesterday I got back from the very first call back of barbizon & I am from tampa also, I'm scared because it's not like I have much money & your review helped a lot. Are you sure it's not a waste of money? Do you know how other girls felt about it or other people in your class felt about it?

Hi Luci! How was it?

I was offered to work those this weekend! I didn't have much money either, actually, my grandmother paid. But they do have payment plans. :) To me, it really helped.

To me, it was in no way a waste of money. My whole class had a lot of fun as well. The things you do are really fun & you spend 4 hours each day, two weekends a month with these girls so you become friends. Four of my classmates went off to the competition & many more from the lower classes (we were 16+) attended as well.

You'll build confidence & by the end, when you get back your pictures from before, you'll see how much you changed & improved! I'm still really good friends with one girl, we keep in close touch & we both agree that we loved going to Barbizon. You'll love the teachers & the surrounding & the music. It's really a fun time.

I was always nervous, but it's habit. All I can tell you is, if you decide to go, you may get into the industry and you may not. You never know, the industry works in weird ways & they're always looking for something different. You can't get your hopes up & just think that because you went to Barbizon you'll automatically get into the agency.

But, I do know, that if you have the potential to learn & get your spot in the competition, you'll show what you know in front of 50+ agents and managers. I took the shot, and loved it. But everyone's different. I would talk it over with your parents, that's what I did.

They helped me make the right decision. I came out of Barbizon the better me.

In my opinion, I say give it a go! I think you'll love it, especially the one we went to.

LISTEN TO THE KIDS I was contacted by Miss Jessica to come and audition with her to do modeling and acting. I went to the hotel in Queens with my dad and my sister. We met with her and she was so nice to us. She told me reasons why I would need training to do modeling and acting but she also helped me understand other things I would be learning. My mom died three years ago and I haven't had anyone to help me with some of the things I need help with. When Jessica called me and told me that they had a spot for me I was excited not only for modeling and acting but I was excited to take the classes to learn tips on makeup and fashion since my mom isnt around anymore. Miss Jessica helped my dad figure out the money but my dad knows it is worth it. Barbizon is not a scam, Miss Jessica gave me her private cell phone number and told me to call her and let her know how my class is going. She lives all the way in Florida so if this was a scam why would she even want me to contact her? Most of the people on this sight are just mad because they are parents who dont want to pay for this for thier kids. I am so excited to start my training this weekend and I know it will be worth it. Thanks Barbizon and Miss Jessica.

I went to Barbizon to feel better about my self as I was getting picked on at school and hated going.

I feel better about myself and am not getting bullied anymore cause I just don't care, what they say does not bother me anymore.

I love barbizon but I did not go to model.

girls in my class are here for modelingand they like it.

Barbizon Modeling School - She Dreamed and It Is Happening
We received a call inviting my daughter to an audition for Barbizon. We attended the audition and she was accepted. At the time we received the call, my daughter was currently the reigning 2016 Little Miss Juneteenth as well as the 2017 March of Dimes Ambassador for San Antonio, she was already making appearances on local television media, featured in San Antonio Woman magazine and a local television commercial airing. We found out that she was accepted on her 9th birthday. Upon accepting the invite to attend, the process was easy concerning the payments for the classes and I could fit them in our budget. After attending 3 classes, one of her instructors put her name in for an audition for Passport to Discovery. We went, she auditioned and SHE GOT IT!!! The cost was high but she and I had ideas to raise the money. While waiting to attend Passport to Discovery, she was sent an invitation to audition for the 2018 Annual Competition in Dallas. She auditioned and SHE GOT IT!!! We went to the competition in July and she walked away winning over-all for Monolog and 27 call-backs...she signed with Dino May Management out of LA and she is doing great. I said all of that to say...Barbizon is AWESOME and Shelby, my 11 year daughter, is living proof of what can happen if you dream and believe. Lisa
